Und schon ist wieder 

WEIHNACHTEN.

Unsere Wintersaison hat entspannt und ruhig angefangen und nun ist schon Heiligabend und ich möchte euch nur kurz mit in unsere Pläne für die nächsten Tage reinnehmen: Es ist unser erstes Weihnachten ohne unsere Familien in Deutschland, unser erstes Weihnachten in einem anderen Land UND unser erstes Weihnachten als kleine Familie. 

Wir haben es eigentlich super gut: wir feiern nun doppelt Weihnachten. Wir skypen mit unseren Familien am deutschen Heilig Abend (unserem Morgen), genießen leckeres Essen und halten uns dann ganz (für uns neu-) traditionell an die Kanadische Version des Geschenke Auspackens am Weihnachtsmorgen. Auch wenn Liam noch super klein ist – er liebt das Geschenkpapier schon jetzt und wir haben natürlich ein paar (mehrere) Kleinigkeiten für ihn besorgt… (Es gibt ja schließlich sooo viele ‚pädagogisch wertvolle‘ Sachen für die Entwicklung…. *hust* *zwinker*.) Dann schauen wir uns hier den Weihnachtsgottesdienst an und haben zum Schluss ein (schön an die Regeln haltendes) Weihnachts-Lagerfeuer mit den Leuten aus dem Camp. 

Wir freuen uns schon total. 

 

Eine weitere geniale Sache ist der

SCHNEE.

 

Auch wenn es hier im Camp keine weiße Weihnacht gibt (obwohl…weiß schon - vom Frost und der Kälte…), der Schnee ist nicht weit entfernt. Wir haben uns im Voraus zu Weihnachten gegenseitig Schneeschuhe geschenkt. Vor ein paar Tagen hat es hier in der Gegend dann richtig geschneit und nun ist nur 10 min entfernt ein wunderschönes Winter-Wunderland. 

Das haben wir direkt genutzt und sind mit Liam Schneeschuhwandern gewesen. Das macht so viel Spaß. Noch ist Liam etwas klein um alleine im Schnee zu spielen, aber anfassen geht schon. Die Kälte macht ihm gar nichts aus. Und im Wanderrucksack auf Mamas oder Papas Rücken macht es richtig Spaß sich die Schneelandschaft anzuschauen. 

Wir hoffen, dass wir bald auch

SKI / SNOWBOARD FAHREN 

 

können. Hier in der Nähe gibt es ein großes Ski Gebiet – Manning Park. Ein Nationalpark der viele Möglichkeiten zum Wandern bietet und jetzt im Winter ein offenes Skiresort beherbergt. Zusätzlich dazu kann man hier auch Back-Country-Ski fahren. Das haben wir bisher noch nicht ausprobiert, aber wir haben einige Freunde die das machen und vielleicht versuchen wir es mal gemeinsam mit denen. Auf jeden Fall werden wir diesen Winter wieder zum Skilift und Ich (Fiona) Ski und Kevin Snowboard fahren. Mal schauen wie das mit Liam funktioniert. Schwanger hat es gut geklappt. Ich bin eine ziemlich sichere Skifahrerin, bleibe auf den entspannten Pisten und hab daher das Risiko zu fallen die letzte Saison so gut wie möglich minimiert. Diese Saison schauen wir mal ob wir Liam auf den Rücken schnallen oder vielleicht doch lieber einfach immer einer unten am Hügel mit ihm zurück bleibt – ich denke wir warten eher darauf dass er selbst laufen kann und wir ihm das Ski / Snowboard fahren beibringen können ;-) Was sind eure Erfahrungen mit Kindern Ski/Snowboard zu fahren?

ANDERES UND WEITERES:

 

Das letzte Jahr war voll. Voll mit seltsamen Veränderungen, Situationen, die wir uns anders gewünscht hätten, aber auch sehr, sehr vielen schönen und wundervollen Momenten. Dieses letzte halbe Jahr mit Liam hat mir wieder neu vor Augen gebracht, wie schön das Leben sein kann, wenn es auch etwas verrückt ist. Wenn man alles mal aus den Augen eines Babys als ‚zum ersten Mal dies‘ und ‚zum ersten Mal das‘ betrachtet, ist das Leben doch echt voll mit genialen und positiven Augenblicken. Ja, der Virus hat uns sicherlich vieles weggenommen, was wir eigentlich gerne erlebt hätten. Aber wir haben trotzdem (oder vielleicht sogar gerade deshalb) viele entspannte Momente zum Ausruhen gehabt, qualitativ wertvolle Zeiten mit Freunden und Familie (wenn auch ‚nur‘ per Internet – ist es nicht super, dass es das Internet gibt?) und wir dürfen es wertschätzen (zumindest habe ich es so erlebt) in was für gut entwickelten Ländern wir leben, wo der Staat uns unterstützt und sich darum bemüht, dass wir alle gesund und existenziell bleiben. 

Ich habe viele Dinge neu schätzen gelernt, wie Augenblicke der Ruhe (nicht nur wegen dem wenigen Schlaf als neue Mama), Freundschaften (die auch ohne Umarmung und über die Distanz halten), Familie (die wächst und gefühlt starke Wurzeln hat) und eine wunderschöne Gegend in der wir leben.

 

Nun hoffe ich

ZUM SCHLUSS

 

dass es euch auch so geht. Das ihr auf das letzte Jahr zurückblicken und die schönen Momente wertschätzen könnt. Das ihr von 2020 positive Erinnerungen und Bilder mitnehmt. 

Natürlich wünschen wir euch auch für den Rest dieses Jahres noch eine friedvolle und entspannte Zeit. Wir hoffen ihr habt ein schönes Weihnachtsfest und genießt die Tage (ob persönlich mit Familie und Freunden oder virtuell). Feiert und denkt immer daran, dass wir durch Jesu Geburt auf eine hoffnungsvolle Zukunft blicken können. Mit Freunde, und Liebe, und viel Segen. 

Habt einen genialen Start ins Jahr 2021.

Old and New Traditions

And again its

CHRISTMAS.

Our Winter season started calm and relaxing and now its already Christmas Eve. We quickly want to tell you about our plans for the following holidays: It’s our first Christmas without our families in Germany, our first Christmas in another country AND our first Christmas as a family. 

We actually got a great deal here: we’re celebrating Christmas twice now. We’re skyping with our families on Christmas Eve in Germany (our Christmas Eve morning), we enjoy a delicious roast and then start a new tradition with following the typical Canadian ‘Unwrapping Gifts on Christmas Morning’ Routine. Even though Liam is super young, we still bought a few Christmas gifts for him – he already loves the wrapping paper – and of course we could hardly stop buying things (there are so many good ‘educational’ gifts for babys out there….:p*ehehm*). Then we’ll watch our GBCs Christmas Service and spend some time with our Squeah Family at a Christmas Campfire here at Camp (of course we want to stick to the rules with all the physical distancing…). 

We’re really looking forward to it!

Another great thing is the

SNOW.

Even though it doesn’t seem like a White Christmas here at Camp (yet – even though it looks kind of white with all the frost and cold) the snow isn’t far away. We gave each other snow shoes as an early Christmas present and a few days ago it actually snowed. Now there is a beautiful Winter Wonderland just 10 min from here. 

We directly went out and used out new snowshoes together with Liam. It was a lot of fun. Liam is still a little small for playing alone in the snow, but he loved being in his backpack for the hike and watching all those beautiful white areas with the snowflakes falling from the trees. 

 

We hope that we soon can go

SKIING / SNOWBOARDING.

There is a huge skiing are not far from here – Manning Park. It’s a national park that has a lot of possibilities for hiking and during the winter season there is an open ski resort that we can go to. Well, there is also a lot of Backcountry-Skiing and we do have a few friends who’re doing it. We haven’t so far though, but maybe we will go for it with a few friends and try it this season. We’ll definitely drive to the ski resort again though and I (Fiona) will go Skiing and Kevin Snowboarding. We still have to see what to do with Liam. It worked out pretty well when I was pregnant (I am a safe skier and only used the easy to moderate routes, to minimize the risk of falling). Now with Liam I’m not sure if we want to put him in a backpack and go. We’ll probably always just stay at the bottom of the hill with him, while the other person gets to ski/snowboard and wait for Liam to be able to stand, before we put him ON the ski hill. ;-) What are your experiences: Skiing / Snowboarding with a Baby?

Now a little bit of

OTHER AND MORE THINGS:

The last year was full. Full of weird changes, situations we wished would have been different, but also a lot of beautiful and wonderful moments. This last half year with Liam showed me again how beautiful Life can be, even though it’s crazy sometimes. If you see life from the viewpoint of a baby with a lot of ‘firsts’, it is full of wonderful and positive moments. Yes, the virus surely took away some memories we would have made. But we still (or maybe because of it) gained a lot of relaxing moments, quality time with friends and family (even though it was mostly virtual – isn’t it great that we have the internet?!), and we’re able to value (at least I thought so) the good structure and support system we have in the countries we live in.

I was able to cherish a lot of things again, like moments of rest (not only because I am a new mom now), friendships (that are getting stronger even without hugs and over the distance), family (that grows and has strong roots) and a beautiful area we live in. 

We hope

AT LAST

that you’re thinking the same. That you can look back at the past year and cherish the wonderful moments it gave you. That you can take away positive memories and pictures from 2020. 

Of course we also hoope, that you have a great rest of your year with a few peaceful and relaxing days. We wish you all a wonderful Christmastime and that you can enjoy some kind of celebration with your family & friends (personally or virtually). Celebrate and remember, that because of Jesus birth we can have a hopeful future. With Joy and Love and lots of Blessings.
